We are so excited to be bringing our fun and popular leathercraft workshops to Sarawak, where one-half of DIYKL calls home! In this DIYKL Leathercraft Workshop, you will learn how to make a Leather Cardholder (which can be used as a wallet as well!) from scratch using 'saddle-stitch', a traditional leather hand-stitching method which is a stronger, more durable and beautiful stitch. No sewing experience needed to learn how to saddle-stitch! You will be taught by leathercrafter and our very own Sarawakian Co-Founder, Saran.
We will be using veg-tanned waxed cow leather, which gives off a 'marbled' finish. After much usage, your leathergood will create that beautiful 'patina' which adds character to your leathergood. Tools and supplies will be provided. Just bring yourself!
This 3.5-hour workshop will guide you on crafting your own luxurious Leather Cardholder/Wallet:
Basic pattern-making will be taught on designing your leather cardholder. These same techniques can be applied to your future leathercraft designs.
Techniques on making clean cuts on leather using a knife.
Learn how to use a prickling iron to create holes in the leather for handstitching.
Burnishing/edging the edges of your leather to create a finished look.
Learn the traditional saddle-stitch method to hand-stitch leather. This might be the hardest part, but trust us, you are going to appreciate your finished leathergood!
Personalise your leather cardholder with embossing. Choose to stamp your name or initials!
You will bring home:
Your very own hand-stitched luxurious marbled Leather Cardholder/Wallet, whoa!
